True North CEO weighs global strategy
Article Abstract:
David Bell, CEO of True North Communications, is considering the firm's next move. Insiders say the firm has received signs of interest from Havas Advertising and Interpublic Group. True North has not achieved the economies of scale enjoyed by its rivals, and last year had a profit margin of only 11.2%, as compared to the 13% profit margin of other firms. Mr. Bell has been working to expand into marketing services, a segment of the industry that is growing faster than print ads and TV ads.

Macy's tries a CD to draw teen shoppers
Article Abstract:
Macy's is sending out a CD-ROM featuring hit music and an interactive fashion show to 500,000 teens in hopes of attracting their business. Draft Worldwide was the agency involved. Macy's needs to reach that demographic group, but so far has not been able to convey a hipper image in its catalogs and TV ads. Nordstrom says a similar experiment on their part last year was a flop. Nordstrom sent a CD-ROM to over 600,000 subscribers, but the effort didn't draw in business as had been hoped.
