Article Abstract:
Following months of unsuccessful negotiations, it appears that WPP Group will soon reach an accord to purchase Young & Rubicam for $4.5 billion to $4.7 billion in stock. If completed, the deal would create the largest advertising and marketing firm in the world. True North to discuss scenarios for merger of Foote Cone, Bozell
Article Abstract:
True North Communications is to decide this week whether to go ahead with the plan to either merge all or just the foreign or other divisions of its two existing agencies, Foote, Cone & Belding Worldwide and Bozell Worldwide. The options are either to combine the two agencies to create one global advertising giant, or to combine the international operations of the two so they can better compete against the worldwide-advertising leaders, Omnicom Group, WPP Group and Interpublic Group. Foote Cone had billings of around $6 billion in 1998; Bozell about $3 billion.
