Viacom sets sale of cable properties

Viacom agreed to sell its cable systems to RCS on Jan 20, 1995 in a $2.3 billion deal. RCS is owned by Frank Washington, a black executive. The deal will enable Viacom to get $200 million in tax exemptions under a law that gives such breaks to investments in minority-owned broadcasting companies.

Time Warner sets merger with Turner Broadcasting System
Article Abstract:
Time Warner Inc announced on Sep 22, 1995, that it would merge with Turner Broadcasting System Inc in a stock-swap deal worth $7.5 billion. If the merger is approved by regulators, the new firm will be the largest media firm in the world. US West Inc is trying to block the merger.

US West sets cable TV firm buyout
Article Abstract:
US West offered to buy Continental Cablevision Corp for $10.8 billion, and completion of such a purchase will produce the largest merger between a telephone company and a cable television company. The purchase price includes assumption of debt and cash and stock payouts.
