American Express sues Chase over ads
Article Abstract:
Chase Manhattan ran an ad that claimed it had the best platinum card and it is about to launch a direct-mail promo claiming the same thing. American Express is suing Chase for " false advertising and deceptive acts and practices." Amex says the ads point out that in a comparison of credit card companies, American Express is implied as falling short in a survey, but Amex was never included in the survey. American Express started the platinum card trend in 1984 which is its only credit card; mostly it markets charge cards that must be paid off each month.

Spurning Visa, Citigroup turns to MasterCard
Article Abstract:
Though the exact figures have not been disclosed, Citigroup is dropping Visa and picking up MasterCard as its credit card of record, for about one-half the fees. Fees that Citigroup has been paying Visa are thought to be between $100 million and $200 million annually, money Citigroup feels Visa squanders on advertising that helps Visa but not Citigroup. Besides fees, MasterCard is also said to be making allowances about putting Citigroup's name, exclusively, on the fronts of cards.
