Advertising on the Internet is about to change again with the implementation of ad robots, full-page ads and push technology. Only a few companies have started using such obtrusive advertising for fear of alienating Web surfers and creating hostility that will harm their products' reputations rather than aid them. Service developer Black Sun Interactive is providing ad robots that listen to conversations in chat rooms. Visitors who mention certain topics may have an ad respond to their remarks. Plant Direct has implemented Black Sun's ad robots in its free chat room. Presently, Black & Decker is the only advertiser to have a robot in the chat room. A number of Web sites, such as Riddler, require a user to scroll through pages of ads before reaching the site's real content.
