Australian Prime Minister John Howard is in charge during a time of economic turmoil. His coalition has presented Australian citizens with a total economic reform package which includes tax reform, low interest rates and sound fiscal management. Expenditures must continue to be minimal in the grim economic climate so issues of health and education may not be broached.

Industry awaits its turn at reform

Industry policy is an important issue in Australian business. With an upcoming election the Labor Party is counting on a grandiose plan to increase investment and slash unemployment. Despite the election's focus on employment, industry policy has taken a secondary role behind the government's Investing for Growth package and business groups that seek tax reform.
