Profits and ethics in environmental investments
Article Abstract:
The trends in corporate environmental accounting signal a more proactive environmental planning that involves recognition and reduction of total environmental costs, and that results in improved corporate profitability. Therefore, good environmental practices are increasingly being recognized as a critical element of good business practices and senior management decisions. In discussions of environmental accounting, multiple functions are getting involved, including finance and accounting, law and environmental affairs. Having realized the strategic value of environmental accounting and the role of decision support tools in such an activity, managerial accountants must take it upon themselves to convince senior management to commit themselves to the analysis of environmental costs. Ultimately, this will help senior managers erase their image as mere corporate scorekeepers.

Key features of an effective ethics training program
Article Abstract:
The effectiveness of a business ethics process can be maximized if it includes a training and awareness program that improves the sensitivity of managers and employees to their ethical responsibilities within the organization. Unfortunately, a study indicates that employees are suspicious of ethics and compliance training programs because they believe that training is not beneficial for them. However, this skepticism can be overcome if certain features are included in the training. These features are live instruction, small class sizes, decision-based focus, use of a professional trainer and powerful senior executive message. Other features are realistic case materials, significant group interaction, minimum of four hours of training, comprehensive rollout, separate courses for compliance areas, follow-up communications and new employee program.
