A Chinese in Paris
Article Abstract:
Asian art collectors are increasingly interested in the paintings of Tang Haywen. One of Tang's paintings sold for three times its expected price at a Taipei auction, and the Taipei Fine Arts Museum is holding a major exhibition of his works. Tang was born in China in 1921, but lived in Paris from the age of 21 to his death in 1991. He travelled widely, and important people enjoyed his company and conversation. Tang displays his Chinese identity and reflects Chinese traditions in his art, but he developed his own contemporary style.
