A Windy City for the next century
Article Abstract:
Chicago suffers from urban sprawl, and The Commercial Club of Chicago has released 'Chicago Metropolis 2020', a report seeking to tackle the problem of loss of population and employment from the inner city. Traffic congestion, loss of green space, and concentrations of poverty are causing concern. Low density development is promoted in many communities, which means that public transportation is inefficient, while the wider cost of commuting is not paid for by drivers. The proposed solutions include higher vehicle taxes and better public transportation.
