Profiting from region's woes is unlikely
Article Abstract:
Domestic and international investors seeking to venture in Taiwan's financial markets are unlikely to benefit from the country's failing assets. Despite reports of industrial boom in Taiwan, the country's investment in Southeast Asia significantly dropped by 88% during the first half of 1998. Conditions may further be aggravated by the uncertainty of international entrepreneurs to invest in the country due to the limited-scope of business operations and stringent banking requirements in Taiwan.

Malls on Taiwan's horizon expect to offer shop-till-you-drop bliss
Article Abstract:
Taiwan has simplified zoning regulations and offered new tax incentives to shopping mall developers. The government has since then approved 28 mall projects and the first ones are scheduled to open in late 1998. Executives approximate over 50 shopping centers are being planned. Prior to the new zoning rules, mall developers were burdened with an abundance of zoning laws and cumbersome bureaucracy.
