A condition based maintenance model for a two-unit series system
Article Abstract:
Prediction of performance failures of industrial machines provides operators the opportunity to formulate maintenance policies that would guide them in minimizing their overall costs. In two-unit series systems, wherein one unit will only function if the other is functioning, doing a periodic overhaul of the component units simultaneously is more economical than setting up individual preventive maintenance work on each unit. Such a maintenance scheme reduces the number of system breakdowns and the related financial loss associated with stalled production processes.

Preventive maintenance in a 1 out of n system: the uptime, downtime and costs
Article Abstract:
An approximation model that can be used to compute for the predicted uptime, predicted downtime and the predicted costs per time unit of reliable systems is provided. In this model, the age-replacement method of preventive maintenance is used. This means that machines will be removed for preventive maintenance and will be replaced by standby equipment if machine age has reached a particular value.
