A consistency improving method in the analytic hierarchy process
Article Abstract:
A method is proposed for improving the consistency of a positive reciprocal matrix. This matrix is developed based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process and is frequently used for complex decision-making. However, the priority vector derived from the matrix is usually non-reflective of observed outcomes. The eigenvector method used for deriving the priority vector may be refined by reducing the maximum eigenvalue. This less than maximum eigenvalue may be calculated using a proposed algorithm.

The sensitivity of the analytic hierarchy process to alternative scale and cue presentations
Article Abstract:
Three related experiments were conducted to examine whether differences in the scale used or the format order of paired comparisons result in significant differences in Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) models. Results reveal that the scale used is associated with different AHP models and that the random format of the paired-comparison presentation is associated with different AHP models. However, results for the scale and format effects are not distinct in all three experiments.

A Thurstonian view of the analytic hierarchy process
Article Abstract:
A probabilistic unidimensional model has been developed for evaluating preference ratio judgments similar to those used in the Analytic Hierarchy Process. The model is based on the folded normal distribution concept and capable of providing accurate estimates of the scale values or weights of the stimuli. It is very useful for consensual and group decision making processes.
