A dose of reality
Article Abstract:
Online pharmacies should perform well since the product is small, expensive and weighs little, and the sick have reasons not to want to go shopping, while distribution can be costly with intermediaries. There was initial enthusiasm about online pharmacies, but this has changed due to the complexity of the market and the dominance of health management organizations and insurers in the US industry. The 30-day prescription market is the least lucrative, while treatments for acute problems have to arrive rapidly. Repeat prescriptions tend to be controlled by pharmacy-benefit managers with mail order companies of their own.
