A fast changing landscape
Article Abstract:
The airports in the Nordic region remain competitive with the opening ofnew players and increased traffic by low-cost carriers. A new airport Oslo Gardermoen opened in 1999, but has suffered early problems from aircraft grounding, delays, baggage handling and its rail links to the Oslo City centre. Airports in Stockholm, Sweden, and Copenhagen, Denmark, remain in battle for passenger traffic. Meanwhile, small regional airports continue to benefit from increased traffic resulting from the introduction of new service by low-fare airlines from these destinations.

Concessions built to order
Article Abstract:
More airports are turning to professional concession developers to manage their concession management programmes. Airports are faced with the question of whether or not to establish a partnership with developers or to manage the concessions themselves. An executive of a developer opined that well-managed airports want to partner with them since they provide the needed expertise which complement the airport's goals. Poorly managed airports consider developers are competitors and manage concessions by themselves.
