Nordic public markets grow up: increasing focus on shareholder value, internationalisation of local markets and industry consolidation are all leading to a more sophisticated public M&A market in the Nordic region
Article Abstract:
Public mergers and acquisitions in the Nordic countries have developed since the late 1980s, with Sweden the most developed in size, liquidity, volume and technical sophistication terms. There is increased foreign ownership of Nordic stocks and legal limits on levels of foreign ownership have been removed. Public takeovers in Nordic countries often have shorter offer periods than in the UK, although semi-hostile bid situations are not common.

Demanding clients put the squeeze on fees
Article Abstract:
The merger and acquisition business has regained its pre-eminent position, but clients are more demanding and are extremely fee-conscious. This has led to a fall in advisers' remuneration on individual deals. Advisers must offer break downs of certain fees so that the client knows exactly what the fee encompasses.
