It will take some time for Asia's economy to recover, according to Anthony Chan, chief regional economist at HSBC James Capel Asia. This view is shared by Bob Broadfoot, managing director of Political & Economic Risk Consultancy. Asia's outstanding debt is extremely large, and exports will have to be strong for many years before the debt is reduced, according to Sun Bae Kim, executive director-Asia economic research at Goldman Sachs (Asia). Ajay Kapur, global emerging markets strategist at Morgan Stanley, believes that overcapacity in Asia must be eliminated by increasing spending and reducing taxes.
