A modelling study of the effects of continuous incremental improvement in the case of a process shop
Article Abstract:
An analysis of setup reduction and processing time reduction effects in multi-product multi-machine job shop reveals that process improvements are effective at a very high utilization levels. The study points out however, that effectiveness of process improvements seem to be reduced when setup times are less than 5% of batch processing time and that adding machines and reducing bottlenecks may be a viable alternative to process improvements at high utilization levels.

Concurrent engineering of work and production systems
Article Abstract:
The design of work and production systems in a concurrent engineering environment covers a wide range of aspects that require a specific approach. The early phases of product development should include the selection of inspection tools and integrated job design that includes personnel planning. However, the design of shop floor control systems requires an accurate database and can only be initiated in the late stages of production.
