Article Abstract:
The Peruvian hostage crisis which began Dec 17, 1996, is still in a deadlocked situation. The Movement's demands of freedom for political prisoners is met with Fujimori's offer of freedom for the rebels if the hostages are released. Fujimori's handling of the crisis is analyzed.

Peru gives its verdict
Article Abstract:
Alberto Fujimori, who took over Peru in a military coup in April 1992, was confirmed as president in elections held Nov 22, 1992. However, the two largest parties did not run anyone for election to the new congress and called the vote questionable.
