Australia and Malaysia have shared a relationship that can be termed as far from cordial. However, the recent Malaysian trade and investment delegation has put the bitter past on the backburner to revive a foreign policy conducive to Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand. The achievements in foreign policy of Malaysia under the leadership of Malaysia's new prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi have been mentioned.

Malaysian premier Abdullah Ahmed Badawi secured the biggest electoral victory in Malaysia's 46-year-old history. In case of Abdullah, the need for the proceedings such as consolidation of his own personal power by retaining two key portfolios, finance and internal security, and his new cabinet appointments looked far in the future.
