A new sense of purpose for a sculptor's studio home: the restoration of Dora Gordine's unusual inter-war house creates additional facilities for Kingston University
Article Abstract:
Dorich House, an individual studio home designed by Russian sculptor Dora Gordine, has been restored by architect David Brown & Partners for new owner Kingston University. Adequate weatherproofing has a major task and small areas of brickwork had to bee replaced. The roof terrace had suffered rain penetration soon after the house was built and it had to be stripped to screed level, finished with polymer-modified asphalt and insulated. The curved parapets were finished with precast reconstructed stone copings. The alterations internally were relatively minor, including the installation of fire resistant doors.
