A piece of paper promising strife
Article Abstract:
It is uncertain whether the results of a Franco-German economic summit will prove favorable to the economic policies of the countries' left-of-center governments or will become a showdown between the countries' finance ministers and chief bankers. The officials attending the summit include German finance minister Oskar Lafontaine, French finance minister Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Bundesbank chief Hans Tietmeyer, and Banque de France chief Jean-Claude Trichet. The bankers favor a tight fiscal policy.

Keynes given a second bite
Article Abstract:
An economically unified Europe is poised to revisit the Keynesian employment plans that had been shelved for a while. Such a move, however, has its detractors. What may be missed in the debate over the practice of Keynesian economics is its feasibility and the reason behind its emergence. The argument for the adoption of Keynesian economic models is varied. It includes the ability to solve balance of payment problems, if the European Union adopts a unified macro policies, among other things.
