Algerian IPO due in February

Algerian state-owned pharmaceutical company Saidal will hold its initial public offering in Feb 1999, issuing two million shares representing 20 percent of the company. An earlier privatization offering for cereal distributor Eriad had proved disappointing. Shortlists of bidders for soft-drink plants and mineral-water companies have been drawn up, and the government has already raised US$50 million from the sale of breweries alone, with another $50 million committed to modernize them.
