A prophet without honour: Disciples of lime are precious about its correct preparation and use. But in France, using lime can be normal practice, the material a commodity
Article Abstract:
The widespread use of natural lime in construction is taken for granted in parts of France, as they never stopped using it. A small group recently visited the Perigord region with the St Astier, the largest manufacturer of natural hydraulic limes in Europe. St Astier's approach is to produce lime as an industrial commodity and it is hoped that this approach may overcome some of the objections by the UK construction industry to using lime more widely. The continued popularity of rendered walling is one reason for the continuity in use of lime in many areas of France.

Glass spectacles: recent glazing technology provides new options in fire-rated glass partitions, new films and a lintel that reduces cold bridging
Article Abstract:
Partition-height glass has been introduced to Schott Glass's fire-rated butt-jointed glass screening range, to provide uninterrupted windows for viewing galleries at stadia. Neslo is also launching a one-hour fire-rated glazed partitioning variety. Madico has introduced Duralux 500 solar film for use on the outside of glass, giving improved abrasion and erosion resistance and Sekisui Chemical has developed a glass laminating method that does not need auto-claving.
