Airport hotels are offering reasonable rates for short-time use of their facilities to travellers waiting for connecting flights. Hourly rates are charged for the use of hotel facilities and services. Australia will ease the entry and departure procedures for short-stay businessmen by issuing special cards that will automate document-checking procedures. China's theme park in Zhuhai was constructed at the cost of $72 million and will boost the area's tourism potential. The World Tourism Organization reports that as much as 600 million individuals went on travel in 1996

Hong Kong's top hotels racked up a very good year, survey shows

A Travel Business Analyst survey reveals that Hong Kong hotels headed the Asian market in terms of room and occupancy rates for 1996. Hong Kong's major hotels posted an average room rate of $182.25. Overall occupancy rate for Hong Kong hotels is 87.5%. Colombo, Sri Lanka's occupancy rate, at $62.83 a night, is only around 50%. Bombay has the highest room rate at $239.51 with an occupancy rate of 67.8%.
