A quest for truth: sex slavery issue affects ties with Asian nations
Article Abstract:
Japanese history professor Yoshiaki Yoshimi investigated and wrote a book on comfort women, girls forciblyrecruited to be sex slaves of the Japanese Imperial army in World War II. Although the Japanese government still has to admit using force in recruiting the women, the Japanese have varying opinions regarding the issue. Some do not dispute the claims of comfort women and believe they should be compensated while others believe that the issue is an inevitable consequence of war. The issue of comfort women also has possible repercussions on Japan's ties with itsAsian neighbors.

It has a reputation for corrupt officials jealous of successful overseas Chinese and eager to gain illegally on every transaction. Many businessmen have been detained there for months without trial, often requiring foreign governmental intervention. Peng's business partners tried to get his shares turned over to them, and when he resisted, Macau police kidnapped him.

Article Abstract:
Japan's resort industry is being seriously affected by the economic downturn. Numerous projects have either been scaled down or put on hold. Facilities that have continued operating have had difficulty attracting customers. Others, such as Kagawa's Festival Village, have closed down due to rising operating costs. Rising land prices have also affected the viability of proposed projects.
