A rolling takeoff
Article Abstract:
The southwest German state of Baden-Wurttemberg is well positioned to prosper as the global economy picks up speed, thanks to a plethora of machinery manufacturers. Further, in addition to automotive and electrical engineering giants, it has many companies focused on developing technologies such as gene splicing, medical equipment, microsystems, and environmental engineering. The area produced 15% of Germany's gross domestic product in 1994 with only 12.6% of the country's population, and it received more than 45% of net direct foreign business investments made in all of Germany.
