A sure thing?
Article Abstract:
Citibank in Hong Kong is offering an investment that combines the safety virtues of a bank account with the potential for growth of derivatives and volatile stockmarkets. The Citi-Asia and Citi-Latin America Capital Guaranteed Funds park the minimum investment of $10,000 in US Treasury Bonds to guarantee the principal, then use the interest to gamble on a weighted group of Asian or Latin American stock indexes. The return to the investor equals 57% of the Latin American group's appreciation, or 117% of the Asian's, plus the principal.

Yankee, come back! Asian markets need a dose of American liquidity
Article Abstract:
Asian stocks have done relatively poorly in 1995, but many observers think the US bull run has weakened and that new money will flow East. Japan is likely to be the first beneficiary, thanks to its familiarity and a general perception that the worst is past. Fund managers are mixed on Hong Kong, with predictions of anywhere from 4,000 to 10,500 for the Hang Seng index. Southeast Asia is problematic in general, with signs of overheating in Asean and comparable growth predicted in some other parts of the world.

Little big men
Article Abstract:
Foreign fund managers and minority shareholders are exercising their ability to influence company decisions in Hong Kong when public companies attempt to privatize at the detriment of their shareholders. Two cases have demonstrated this trend: Fountain Set Holdings, which had to scrap a privatization proposal; and East Asiatic, which was not allowed to repurchase shares at less than the 1987 public offer value.
