A taxonomy for warranty policies

Article Abstract:

Warranty policies and aspects of the concept itself are discussed. Since the literature on the subject are scattered and do not interact, efforts to integrate them are undertaken. The studies come from various disciplines such as law, marketing , economics, management, engineering, operational research and statistics. Several approaches to the study of product warranty policies include the integration of mathematical models in managing product warranty.

A usage dependent model for warranty costing

Article Abstract:

Two models to determine warranty costing for items used beyond thewarranty period are presented. The first model considers item failure based on usage, while the second model takes into account both usage history and the condition of the item as factors contributing to item failure. Warranty costs per unit for failure-free warranties with fixed periods for both repairable andnonrepairable items are determined using both models.
