A timeless Modernist
Article Abstract:
Architecture must respond to the landscape and the climate, according to Paul Collinge, sole principal in architectural firm Aldington, Craig and Collinge. He is firmly committed to Modernist principles, and was very influenced by Aalto in his youth. He has been associated with a number of very significant projects, although he does not have a particularly high profile. He places great emphasis on quality, and prefers design which focuses on both the particular and the individual.

Beauborg revisited
Article Abstract:
The design of the Pompidou Centre in Paris, France, which opened in Jan 1977, was an exploration for architects Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano. Rogers had many ideas, and was keen to experiment and innovate. Piano focused on materials and the building process. The building was conceived on the basis of social ideals, but became closely associated with a right-wing French President. Rogers and Piano never intended that it should become a monument.
