A torch song
Article Abstract:
Nuclear waste which arises from fission reactors is becoming a problem, so there is renewed interest in the idea of a fusion torch, initially developed in 1968 by physicist, Bernard Eastlund. There are mothballed fusion reactors which could be used for fusion torch projects. Eastland wants funds to be invested in research to develop a prototype system involving the University of Texas and Mississippi State University. There are legal and political obstacles to the plan, but Eastland is keen to develop it.
