Improving European antitrust
Article Abstract:
There is a need for reform of European antitrust policy, and the European Commission does plan some changes, but they are in the wrong direction. The plan is to devolve some power to national governments, but the single market cannot operate properly without competition policy. European Union (EU) competition policy still takes too lenient a view of big business, and of illegal subsidies from governments. There is too much bureaucracy and too little transparency. There is a need for more resources and procedures that are more streamlined, and for open and rigorous investigations.
