A warming world: countries have not lived up to their environmental promises

Only Switzerland, the UK, and Germany are on track to reduce their CO2 emissions by 2000, despite the international promises made at the 1992 Earth Summit. The coming Earth Summitt+5 (year) conference will produce little progress, as the US, Japan, and Australia oppose mandatory reductions.

How to clean up: protecting the ozone layer may prove easier than curbing global warming
Article Abstract:
The reduction in the production of chlorofluorocarbons has had a positive effect on the ozone layer, and the prospect of reversing ozone layer depletion is promising. Reducing carbon-dioxide output to stop climate change will be more difficult, however.
