Leaks from appliances tend to come from loose connections and failed seals and what appears, as a pool of water on the lino is usually the manifestation of a relentless accumulation of individual drips of water over time. Denis Gibbs, a retired engineer, used some aluminum mesh and a couple of bell wires to detect liquid and create an alert.

Beating the freeze
Article Abstract:
Innovations in the production of concrete in cold or freezing conditions are discussed. Research into chemical mixtures which alter the freezing point of water and the hydration rate of cement and allow concrete laying at 4.7 degrees Celsius is described.
