ABB CAN HAVE MORE POWER
Article Abstract:
Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) has projected a growth in turnover by 17 percent to Rs1,046 crore in 1998-99 (Rs896 crore in 1997-98) with profits rising over 50 percent to Rs53 crore (Rs34 crore). A new Rs100 crore unit has been commissioned for steam turbine manufacturing at Vadodara and the transformer unit is expected to be commissioned by December 1998. ABB has the technical know-how to set up power projects on its own including power generation, transmission, industrial and building systems. It has orders on hand worth Rs13,000 crore to generate 3670 mega watts of power. It is backed by ample financial resources of its parent company. (nr)

ABB POSTS 60% FALL IN NET
Article Abstract:
The net profit of ABB has fallen by about 60 percent to Rs37.7 crore in the year ended December 31, 1998 against Rs64.8 crore in 1997. The company's total income declined to Rs893.4 crore in 1998 against Rs1084.2 crore in 1997. It has recommended a dividend of 50 percent on equity capital of Rs41.4 crore for 1998. This gives an earnings per share of Rs9.1 in 1998 against Rs15.7 in 1997. (khr)
