PUNJAB'S PADDY OUTPUT MAY DIP 10%
Article Abstract:
Incessant rains in September have damaged the paddy and cotton crop in Punjab and it is now estimated that the paddy output in the khariff season will be 110 lakh tonnes against a prediction of 125 lakh tonnes. The output is expected to be further affected if the rains continue as predicted by the meteorological department. Procurement agencies have been showing a reluctance in lifting the harvested paddy due to the high moisture content in them. Officials say that the output of the cotton crop will also be about 12 lakh bales against initial estimates of 15 lakh bales. (khr)
