AGARBATHI BODY WANTS DUTY-FREE IMPORT OF AROMA
Article Abstract:
The All-India Agarbathi Manufacturers' Association (AIAMA) has requested the government to exempt aroma chemicals, essential oils, and resinoids from import duties and to restrict levies to a countervailing duty of 20 percent. It has also asked for a reduction in value-addition norm to 100 percent from 600 percent at present. AIAMA as asked the Centre to intervene with state forest departments to allot land for the cultivation of raw materials like jigat and to allow its duty-free imports till the plantations can yield the required raw materials. INDO-JORDAN CHEM NETS Rs55.65 CR IN FIRST YR

Indo-Jordan Chemicals Company has registered a net profit of Rs55.65 crore on sales of Rs351.60 crore in its first full year of operations ended December 31, 1998. The company is a joint venture of Spic and was set up at a cost of $170 million. It has achieved a 104 percent capacity utilisation at its sulphuric acid plant with an annual output of 6.86 lakh tonnes and 106 percent utilisation at its phosphoric acid plant with 2.37 lakh tonnes.
