KERALA DRINKS TO McDOWELL'S HEALTH
Article Abstract:
The rum brand of McDowell & Co, Old Cask Rum, has now emerged as the company's fifth millionaire brand. Kerala has consumed nearly 740,000 cases of Old Cask Rum of the total sales of 1,000,000 cases in the country in 1997-98. In 1996-97, the state had consumed 510,000 cases of Old Cask Rum. Till 1996-97, McDowell & Co had four millionaire brands - McDowells Number 1 Brandy, the Number 1 Whisky, Celebration Rum and Diplomat Whisky. Brandy consumption has also increased in the state with sales of McDowells Brandy moving up from 210,000 cases in 1996- 97 to 356,000 cases in 1997-98. Rising consumption of rum and brandy has enhanced McDowells' total sales to 12 million cases in 1997-98. (gsh)

HDFC POSTS Rs77.36-CR Q3 NET PROFIT

The Housing Development Finance Company (HDFC) recorded a growth of 10.37 percent in its net profit at Rs77.36 crore in the third quarter ended December 31, 1998 (Rs70.09 crore in the same period of 1997). Its net profit grew by 11.37 percent at Rs225.12 crore in the 9 months ended December 31, 1998. Its loan sanctions were Rs2,844 crore and disbursements Rs2,274 crore. (rk) (kvr)
