PLANTATION Cos TO BE STRUCTURED AS CORPORATES
Article Abstract:
Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has set up SA Dave Committee to formulate norms for collective investment schemes. The Committee in its final report has recommended that plantation firms must be structured as corporates, although they have characteristics of mutual fund companies. SEBI's move is to force plantation firms to make disclosures including balancing sheets in keeping with the provisions of the Companies Act. The Committee has made it compulsory for plantation schemes to get appraised by agricultural specialist agencies such as AFCI and NABARD and also a credit rating. All these parametres have disclosed in the prospectus. (gs)
