Iberia halts chunk of flights as pilots prepare first strike

AMR expects nearly half of flights to be grounded in further job action

AMR Corp.'s American Airlines is expecting to cancel almost 1,000 flights on February 18, 1999. This number constitutes nearly 50% of American's flights. The carrier was holding talks with the Allied Pilots Association about the incorporation of Reno Air into American's system. This has been the main obstacle to an agreement between the carrier and the union. American is attempting to find out if the amount of pilot sick calls is dropping.
