AOL Bertelsmann chief to head Bertelsmann's electronic commerce

AOL Bertelsmann Online Europe GmbH Chief Executive and President Heinz Wermelinger will lead BOL, Bertelsmann AG's new international electronic commerce business. Wermelinger will be in-charge of growing the Internet business outside the US, including the up-coming Books On-line service. Bertelsmann, which has entered agreements with America Online and Lycos, made the appointment as part of its strategy to improve its stance in the multimedia industry. Plans call for BOL includes the selling of a wide range of books, music and content through the Internet.

Ukrainian energy official fights corruption charges

Yulia Tymoshenko, Ukraine's deputy prime minister for fuel and energy says she will not compromise her tough stance against corruption and money laundering in Ukraine's energy industry. Meanwhile, an international money-laundering investigation is spinning around United Energy Systems of Ukraine, and Ms. Tymoshenko herself. The investigation has been tipped off by Pavlo Lazarenko, Ukraine's former prime minister, who is already sentenced for corruption himself.
