APPAREL EXPORTS STITCH POSITIVE GROWTH IN H1
Article Abstract:
Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) has observed that apparel exports from India have recorded 8.69 percent rise in terms of dollars during the first half of 1998-99. During the period, the exports were worth $24,374.23 lakh ($22,426.40 lakh during the first half of 1997-98). In terms of volume, exports grew by 6.85 percent to 6,243.75 lakh pieces (5,843.67 lakh pieces). According to AEPC, the unit value realisation has improved marginally in terms of dollars. The huge devaluation in the currencies of certain South East Asian nations has affected the export performance of India. (ag)

INDIAN WOOLEN EXPORTS UP 14.31 PERCENT

The exports of the domestic woolen industry have increased by 14.31 percent to Rs3,754.26 crore in 1998-99 against Rs3,284.38 crore in 1997-98. Indias's exports of woollen handloom woven textiles have increased by 158.74 percent to Rs78.71 crore in 1997-98 against Rs30.42 crore in 1996-97. The exports of woollen readymade garments increased by 28.65 percent to Rs708.09 crore in 1997-98 against Rs550.40 crore in 1996-97. (khr)
