ATL LAUNCHES FIRST-EVER COM COMPETENCE CENTRE IN CHENNAI
Article Abstract:
Advanced Technology Labs (ATL) has set up a COM (Component Object Model) Competence Centre centre at the Elnet Software City in Chennai on September 23, 1998. The software development centre is the first research and development centre in the world to offer specialisation in COM. ATL has invested nearly Rs5 crore in the centre. ATL plans to shift the centre to a new facility at Guindy. It plans to invest Rs30 crore to set up a full fledged centre over an area of 60,000 sq ft. (gs)

SIEMENS INFO SETS UP DEVELOPMENT CENTRE FOR TELEMEDICINE

Siemens Information Systems Ltd (SISL), a joint venture between Siemens Ltd and Siemens Nixdorf AG has decided to establish a development centre for telemedicine. The new centre will focus on four areas for software development. They include medical diagnostic imaging, hospital information systems, tools for software testing and embedded systems for automotive and transportation sectors. SISL has made an outlay of Rs32 crore for the project. (uh)

The department of electronics has given its approval for a joint project on Telemedicine, under which people in remote areas can consult specialists in big hospitals for diagnosis and treatment through satellite communication.
