SAMSUNG LAUNCHES NEW IT PRODUCTS

Samsung Electronics delivered the first batch of code division multiple access terminals to the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd of the Government of India in February 1999. It plans to launch laser beam printers in March 1999, DVD-ROM drives in April 1999, CRT colour monitors and re-writable CD-ROM drives in May 1999 and TFT-LCD monitors in June 1999. Samsung Electronics has supplied mobile phones - SCH-411 - to the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd, which offers EVRC, voice-activated dialling, ringer, LED vibration alert and differential ringing. The Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd, the Department of Telecommunications of the Government of India and the basic service operators need code division multiple access terminals. Samsung Electronics plans to capture the market for code division multiple access terminals. It has estimated the requirement of code division multiple access terminals in India at one lakh by the end of 1999. It has a wide service network and authorised service centres. It plans to set up over 100 service centres in India for information technology (IT) products by March 1999. Its information technology division has recorded a growth of 75 percent. ACC TO ENHANCE PRESENCE WITH THREE NEW BRANDS

Associated Cement Companies (ACC) will create three new national brands of cement. The three new brands - ACC Suraksha, ACC Super and ACC Samrat - will replace regional brands. ACC Suraksha is a blended cement which can be substituted for portland cement for additional strength and durability. ACC Super has better resistance to chlorides and alkalis and as such is preferable to coastal locations. ACC Samrat is a 53 grade superior portland cement. The Rs2,485 crore ACC has set up a new Rs70 crore packaging terminal in New Bombay. (nr)

LEGO TO BUILD UP PRESENCE IN SOUTH

The toy major of Denmark, Lego, plans to launch its pan-Asian product range in Chennai and Hyderabad, to venture into the southern region. The company has already launched its products in Mumbai. By November 1998, Lego is likely to offer three CD-ROMs and multimedia kits and promote its products all over the country by organising a Lego world-cup competition. Some of the toy ranges of Lego include Lego Dupla, Lego Technic, Lego Town, Lego Ships, Lego Aquazone and Lego Motion toys. (gsh)
