ATN crosses the Atlantic
Article Abstract:
The Eurocontrol test of ground/air datalink (Petal) trials, which started in 1995, highlights the use of the aeronautical telecommunication network (ATN) in order to reduce reliance on voice transmission and free up valuable capacity. Between 2002 and 2004, carriers will run out of aircraft communication addressing and reporting system capacity and this will result in an adverse effect in the US territory, according to Captain Russell Chew, American Airlines managing director, strategic operations and technology.
