London meets its match
Article Abstract:
Deutsche Borse, which runs the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, has negotiated an agreement with the London Stock Exchange to set up a JV to set up and run a blue-chip exchange. The JV will be equally owned by the London and Frankfurt exchanges, though the London exchange is twice as large as the Frankfurt exchange. Rules on dealing lot sizes, opening hours, and the like can be harmonised between the two exchanges. There are regulatory and other issues which have to be solved such as the merger of trade processing systems.

Over the odds
Article Abstract:
American Depositary Receipts are traded in dollars in a similar way to normal stocks, and were first launched in 1927, allowing investors to trade in overseas stocks by overcoming restrictions. They also allow foreign companies access to the US market for equities, and there is no need for those companies to carry out an initial public offering. Asian stocks from semi-closed financial markets have seen as rise in value, which is also linked to their lack of financial risk.
