AT&T, affiliate seek Telecom Italia stake

AT&T Inc. and America Movil S.A., its Mexican affiliate, have made offers to obtain a 66.6% stake in Telecom Italia S.p.A.'s holding company, which would increase global industry consolidation. The bids total 2.6 bil euro but face resistance from the Italian government, as it wishes to keep controlling interests within the country.

SBC completes AT&T purchase, takes new name

SBC Communications Inc. of the United States has acquired AT & T Corp. also of the United States for $16.5 billion. The new name of the telecommunications company will be AT & T Inc. SBC Communications Inc. was a spinoff company in 1984 and has acquired it's former parent company.
