Telemedicine's remote control
Article Abstract:
Telemedicine is being developed by European governments in partnership with the telecommunications industry as a cost cutting alternative health care service for an aging population. The new health service has the potential to greatly reduce costs and in a survey 89 percent of Italians who had tried telemedicine were satisfied with it. Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V. of the Netherlands, Compagnie Financiere Alcatel of France and Telecom Italia S.p.A. all have investments in telemedicine services.

Mobile-device dispute heats up in South Korea

Canadian firms Telus Corp. and Research in Motion Ltd. are attempting to win approval from the South Korean government to market their mobile-email devices for use on the nation's cellphone networks. However, rules implemented in 2005 to provide South Korean customers with uniform service options prohibit the marketing of certain devices.

Telecom Italia is latest political tiff
Article Abstract:
Chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera, Telecom Italia S.p.A. of Italy has resigned because of a conversation disclosure by Prime Minister Romano Prodi. The occurrence highlights the difficulty for European telecommunications and energy companies in keeping abreast of both government and investors. Mr. Provera is succeeded by Guido Rossi.
