AUSTRIA: GROWTH POTENTIAL FOR FREE PHONE SERVICES
Article Abstract:
Davis Weszeli, managing director of the newly founded company Atms Telephon- und Marketing Services, predicts the Austrian market for service numbers to double by 2005. In 2001 the market is estimated to be worth EUR 110mn, up from just under EUR 87mn in 2000. About half of the 10,000 or so service numbers in Austria in 2000 were free for the caller. In another 15%, the phone fee is shared by the caller and the company called. The rest consists of value-added services in which the fee is determined between the company called and the provider of the freephone service. Telekom Austria holds more than 50% of the Austrian market for freephone services, but Atms Telephon- und Marketing Services aims to become number one by 2005. In Germany, Atms' parent Dtms Deutsche Telephon- und Marketing Services AG is the second-largest provider of freephone services after Deutsche Telekom. About 2% of phonecalls made in Austria are with service numbers.
