AUSTRIA: 50% PROFIT RATIO AT JOWOOD

The Austrian Rottenmann-based computer game producer JoWooD made a pre-tax profit of Sch 22mn on a turnover of Sch 44mn in 1999. JoWooD, which was set up in 1995, employs 35 staff and 20 freelance partners. JoWooD is to be launched on the Vienna Stock Exchange, perhaps already before summer 2000.

AUSTRIA: JOWOOD TO DEVELOP INTERNET GAMES

Article Abstract:

The Austrian computer game developer JoWooD Productions Software AG is to use the money raised on the stock exchange for further expansion. EUR 30mn is to be invested in the next three years. About half of the total will be spent on the acquisition of a medium-sized competitor and EUR 10mn on smaller acquisitions. Until now JoWooD has been concentrating on PC games, the market for which is growing at an annual rate of 9%. On the other hand, the console game market is growing by 17% annually, according to a Datamonitor survey. The best growth prospects are, however, seen in on-line games, with growth rates of 162% in western Europe and 128% in the US. In the next three years JoWooD is aiming at an annual turnover growth of 80%. The target for earnings before interest and taxes is 26%. In 1999 turnover totalled EUR 3.19mn (up 114%) and earnings before interest and taxes EUR 1.42mn (up about 400%).
