If the cartel authorities agree, Austrian Libro AG is to take over Swiss CeDe, which sells CDs on the Internet under www.CeDe.ch and generates a turnover of SFr 5mn. Libro wants to become a major player in the e-commerce market of the German-speaking countries, and strengthen the Internet subsidiary Lion.cc before listing it on the stock exchange.

AUSTRIA: INTERNET OMBUDSMAN DISCLOSES FIGURES

Austria's Internet Ombudsman, an initiative of the consumer protection organisation VKI and the Austrian Institute for Applied Telecommunications (OIAT), handled 732 complaints concerning electronic commerce in year 2000. Jurgen Gangoly, head of the Internet Ombudsman project, says that most complaints concerned logistics such as late delivery of goods ordered via internet. 12.8% of the complaints involved problems with credit card payment. 80% of the purchases were made from Austrian on-line shops. The sum involved per complaint increased during the year and was Sch 4,644 on average.
